illumination of Monuments - Plan India

Plan India celebrated the  first International Day of Girl Child on Oct 11, 2012 by illuminating leading monuments in Delhi and Hyderabad in pink colour.  Qutub Minar, Purana Quila, Humayun’s Tomb , and Char Minar were illuminated in pink and children from various Plan India communities visited the pink lit monuments and celebrated the Day.

Across the globe , Plan also  illuminated the leading structures such as Niagara Falls, Canada, Empire State Building, New York, USA, London Eye, UK, ‘Mermaid’, Copenhagen, Denmark & Sony Center, Berlin, Germany in Pink to mark the day.

A historic milestone for girls' rights was reached when the United Nations recently declared October 11th as the International Day of the Girl Child. Plan led the global advocacy efforts for this special day to influence global leaders and all duty bearers to ensure effective implementation of programs & policies promoting equal rights and opportunities for girls. Globally Plan celebrated the resolution to spread the message to ensure its commitment to girls’ rights. The illumination of the key monuments and buildings across India and the globe was  a symbolic sign to Plan’s commitment in ensuring equal rights to girl child. Plan India aimed to send out a nation-wide message that all of us need to join hands together to support the cause and the campaign.
